Leah Matthews, PhD
Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC)
Leah Matthews currently serves as the Executive Director of the Distance Education Accrediting Commission located in Washington, DC. The DEAC is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1926 that accredits 102 distance education institutions serving nearly 1.2 million students annually. She has over eighteen years of experience in higher education accreditation. Her expertise in higher education policy led to her selection as a non-federal negotiator for the U.S. Department of Education’s 2014 Rulemaking Sessions that addressed policy areas that included state authorization. She is also currently serving as an At-Large Member of the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET) Steering Committee. Leah Matthews earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Education from Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA; a Master of Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma and a PhD in Education from George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.
